(SLAVYANSK-ON-KUBAN, KRASNODAR KRAI) – Ukrainian defence forces conducted a targeted aerial operation against energy infrastructure in the Russian city of Slavyansk on Kuban during the night of 26 January 2026. Local officials confirmed the strike on the Slavyansk Eco oil refinery, which resulted in a significant fire within the facility’s premises. Visual evidence published via social media channels depicted Russian military personnel attempting to intercept the unmanned aerial vehicles before a large explosion illuminated the horizon.

The Slavyansk Eco refinery, which possesses a nominal crude oil processing capacity of approximately 5.2 million tonnes annually, suffered damage to at least one petroleum storage tank. At the current exchange rate, the facility represents a multibillion-rouble asset, with its output critical to the regional economy and military logistics. For reference, 1,000,000 Russian roubles is currently valued at approximately $11,000. Additionally, reports indicate that a second unidentified industrial enterprise in the vicinity was also targeted during the wave of drone strikes. Emergency services were deployed to the sites to extinguish the resulting blazes, which local residents described as engulfing large storage barrels.

Simultaneously, tactical developments on the front line have highlighted the increasing reliance of the Russian military on antiquated hardware. Operators from Ukraine’s 423rd separate unmanned systems battalion, known as the Scythian Griffins, successfully destroyed a Russian T-54 tank using a first person view (FPV) attack drone. The T-54, a Soviet model first introduced in the late 1940s, was identified by reconnaissance units operating near the front. The use of such an aged vehicle suggests significant equipment shortages within the Russian ranks, as the Russian dictator continues to draw from deep storage to compensate for sustained losses of modern armour.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian units including the 110th Separate Mechanised Brigade repelled a Russian assault on the Hulyiapole axis. The Russian forces utilised a modified Ural truck, stripped of its standard cargo bed and doors to serve as a disposable infantry delivery vehicle. Despite being equipped with electronic warfare systems intended to disrupt drone signals, the vehicle and its complement of approximately ten soldiers were neutralised by a combination of small arms fire, FPV drones, and cluster munitions. The engagement occurred near the settlement of Dorozhnianka, contradicting previous claims by the Kremlin regarding the capture of the area.

While Ukraine continues to degrade Russian logistics and armour, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry is working to restore domestic infrastructure following Russian strikes. Utility crews and railway staff are working through freezing temperatures and high humidity to repair the power grid. Despite the persistent threat of further attacks, the ministry reported that restoration work continues 24 hours a day to provide heat and electricity to civilian homes and essential services.
