(СИЗРАНЬ, SAMARA REGION, RUSSIA – ) – Ukrainian special forces conducted overnight strikes on key Russian energy infrastructure on 5 December, targeting both oil and electricity facilities in a coordinated operation. The attacks were part of an ongoing campaign to disrupt critical Russian energy assets.
The Samara region saw the targeted refinery of Rosneft at Syzran, one of Russia’s major oil processing facilities. Meanwhile, in the Volgograd region, the Balashov substation with a capacity of 1611 megavolt-amperes also came under attack.
The strikes were claimed by the SBS Group, specifically the 1st Separate Centre, formerly the 14th SBS Regiment, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces. Officials reported that the operation aimed to reduce Russian energy output and demonstrate the capability of Ukrainian forces to strike deep within Russian controlled territory.
Observers have been invited to monitor the immediate results via the SBS Group’s live online scoreboard, “Pidrahuika,” which tracks operational impact in real time.
