(ENGELS, SARATOV REGION) – A Ukrainian long range drone strike has reportedly hit the Kristall oil depot, a storage site that supplies aviation fuel to the nearby Engels air base, according to publicly shared footage and early analysis from independent observers.

Videos posted online appear to show Russian air defence launching before a flash is seen on the ground, suggesting a direct impact. Another clip shows residents reacting to the event while recording the scene from a distance.

The Engels air base hosts Russian strategic bombers capable of launching long range missile attacks against Ukraine. Russia relocated some of these aircraft further east in 2023 and 2024 to reduce vulnerability to strikes, but operations at the base continue.

The energy facility targeted is understood to store aviation fuel used at the base. It is identified on satellite maps as part of the Kristall complex. Analysts say the attack likely reached its intended target based on the footage.

However, there were no visible signs of a major fire at the site, such as heavy smoke or prolonged burning, which have been reported after previous strikes on the same facility. This has prompted analysts to suggest the drone may have hit an empty storage tank.

The depot has been targeted several times during the conflict. Earlier attacks caused multiple tanks to burn, with satellite imagery confirming widespread fire damage.

The latest strike occurred roughly 600 kilometres from Ukrainian held territory, highlighting Ukraine’s continued ability to conduct long range operations against key Russian military infrastructure.
