(ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES) – Jake Broe, a United States Air Force veteran and prominent conflict analyst, has expressed significant reservations regarding the current peace negotiations taking place in Abu Dhabi. Mr Broe, who served six years as a nuclear missile operations officer before transitioning to a full time role as a commentator following the full scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, suggests that the involvement of Donald Trump is motivated primarily by political optics rather than a substantive pursuit of peace.

During a recent interview, Mr Broe noted that more than a year has passed since the 2024 election, yet the conflict persists despite Donald Trump’s repeated campaign assertions that he could resolve the war within 24 hours. The analyst argues that the former president remains engaged in the process to maintain personal relevance and public attention. While expressing a personal desire for a breakthrough or ceasefire, Mr Broe stated that the Russian state and the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, have shown no genuine inclination to halt hostilities. Instead, the Kremlin appears intent on continuing the conflict so long as it believes further territorial gains are possible, despite the objective reality of significant Russian losses.

Regarding reported US security guarantees for Ukraine, Mr Broe described the prospects as not credible. He highlighted a recent incident involving a suspected Russian false flag operation at the residence of the Russian dictator as evidence of how easily the Trump administration might be swayed by Kremlin narratives to abandon commitments. He further suggested that under Donald Trump, the United States is no longer a reliable partner, expressing doubt that the administration would honour Article 5 obligations if Russia were to target the Baltic states or other Eastern European partners.

The analyst also addressed the role of European leadership, justifying critiques of their perceived inaction. He noted that leaders in France, Germany, and the UK are facing immense pressure from far right movements, which he claims are being bolstered by figures such as Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Elon Musk. Mr Broe warned that if these centrist or liberal governments fail to stabilise their economies, the resulting unrest could lead to the rise of fascist parties allied with the Kremlin.

Looking toward future security architectures, Mr Broe proposed a reform of NATO to prevent individual members like Hungary or Slovakia from sabotaging collective decisions. He envisions a global democratic alliance including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea to counter the axis of authoritarian regimes in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. In this future system, Ukraine is expected to be a primary member, providing unparalleled military experience in drone technology and AI driven combat.

Ukraine’s shift toward self sufficiency in domestic military production was also highlighted. The analyst noted that the use of inexpensive fiber optic drones, costing less than $1,000 (£765 or 41,200 UAH), has revolutionised the war of attrition. Mr Broe’s YouTube community has notably fundraised over $7.5 million to support Ukrainian units and humanitarian efforts, including mountain retreats for recovering soldiers in Lviv. Mr Broe concluded by stating that the war will likely only end when Russia’s economy collapses or its manpower reserves are exhausted, as the Russian dictator remains personally committed to the destruction of the Ukrainian identity.
