(POKROVSK, DONETSK REGION, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian forces have reported a significant escalation in drone operations on the Pokrovsk front, resulting in severe losses for Russian troops attempting to infiltrate the town. Ukrainian special forces deployed some of their most advanced drone units, marking what officials describe as the largest drone related casualties of the war so far.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the frontlines in Pokrovsk, inspecting the major drone units, including the First Azov Corps, 25th Airborne Brigade, 7th Rapid Response, and Rubizh units. Both Zelensky and Commander-in-Chief Valerii Syrski emphasised the importance of neutralising Russian forces in the area. Their presence signalled the strategic priority Ukraine places on defending the town.

The 414th Brigade, known as the Birds of Magyar, was tasked with preventing Russian reinforcements from entering Pokrovsk. Russian forces continue to use infiltration tactics, often moving individually to avoid detection. However, Ukrainian drone operators are tracking and targeting individual soldiers, ensuring even small enemy movements are neutralised. The Birds of Madyar reported the elimination of 8,005 Russian soldiers in October alone. One operation recorded the destruction of 39 soldiers, six motorcycles, and a quad bike. Units patrolled both day and night, targeting infiltrators hiding under rubble or in garages.

Alongside these efforts, Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate deployed elite special forces to clear Russian units already inside Pokrovsk. These operators use advanced FPV drones with fibre optic technology, designed to overcome Russian electronic warfare and operate effectively in challenging weather conditions. Their coordinated operations have dramatically increased Russian losses.

In a single month, Ukrainian special forces reportedly:

Asset Type Destroyed/Eliminated
Russian troops 1,500+
Artillery systems 39
Electronic warfare and air defence assets 18
Tanks 20
Other armoured vehicles 62
Trucks, cars, motorbikes 532
Ammunition and fuel depots Multiple

President Zelenskyy returned to the Pokrovsk front to personally congratulate the troops. He awarded soldiers, spoke with drone operators, and highlighted that Russian forces had achieved no notable gains in the area despite intense offensives. He noted that one third of all frontline clashes occur in Pokrovsk and that half of all Russian glide bombs are launched at the town. In early November, Russian troops reportedly conducted 100 assault actions in a single day, reflecting the Russian dictator’s urgent efforts to capture the region.

Zelenskyy reaffirmed that Pokrovsk remains Ukrainian territory and stressed the government’s commitment to defend eastern Ukraine. While Russia controls approximately 81 per cent of Donetsk and most of Luhansk, the fortified northern towns, including Pokrovsk, continue to resist, protected by both infantry and a highly coordinated drone network. The result has been what Ukrainian officials describe as the largest drone massacre of the conflict, which also indicates the growing role of unmanned aerial systems in modern warfare.
