(SNIZHNE, DONETSK REGION) – Ukrainian forces have destroyed a key Russian military training facility in the occupied Donetsk region, resulting in significant enemy casualties.
The operation, dubbed “Snow of Akhmat,” targeted a centre belonging to the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences in the temporarily occupied territory (TOT) near Snizhne. It resulted in the liquidation of a training hub for the 78th special forces regiment “Sever-Akhmat”.
According to a statement from the Special Operations Forces (SBS) Deep Destruction Centre, the meticulously planned strike eliminated 65 special forces cadets. Also confirmed among the dead was the head of the Bury anti-aircraft missile centre, a doctor of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences. The number of sanitary losses is still being specified, with information being gathered from local hospitals.
The operation was carefully prepared and coordinated by the SBS Deep Destruction Centre in conjunction with the intelligence units of the 1st Special Purpose Brigade and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
On the night of 20 May, operators from the 1st Special Purpose Brigade executed 11 planned strikes using medium strike means, each with a 100 kilogramme warhead. The munitions precisely worked out the training and production complex and the temporary deployment point of the “Sever-Akhmat” regiment, which operates as part of the 42nd division of the Russian army.
The primary target was a two storey complex with an area of 2,484 square metres. The facility housed an assembly line for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and warheads, with the operational staff located on the upper floor. The existing stock of warheads stored in the basements added to the destruction on site for the personnel present at the facility.
Three such training centres of the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences have been deployed in the temporarily occupied territories. Following this operation, two remain. For now.
Footage of the operation was released by the 1st Special Purpose Brigade of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.
