(STERLITAMAK, REPUBLIC OF BASHKORTOSTAN) – Ukrainian long range strike drones have successfully targeted a critical petrochemical facility in the Republic of Bashkortostan, located approximately 1,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border deep inside Russian territory. The attack, carried out on 15 April by the 1st Detached Centre of the Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS), struck the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant.
This facility is a strategic component of the Russian military industrial complex, serving as a manufacturer of aviation fuel, additives for jet kerosene, and notably, the sole producer of neodymium synthetic rubbers within the Russian Federation. The operation demonstrates the extended reach and precision capability of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems against high value logistical and industrial targets far beyond the front line.
The strike in Bashkortostan indicates the erosion of the Russian dictator’s narrative regarding a secure and impenetrable rear. The ability of Ukrainian “Birds” to travel deep into the Russian interior, described colloquially by Ukrainian forces as reaching the “dense backwaters” of enemy swamps, directly challenges the Kremlin’s assurances of safety for its strategic infrastructure.
The head of the Republic of Bashkortostan has publicly confirmed the incident, acknowledging that the illusion of security at extreme depth within Russian territory is no longer tenable. The operation specifically targeted the petrochemical plant’s capacity to sustain the Russian air campaign, in particular the production of fuel and components essential for guided aerial bombs (KABs). The 1st Detached Centre of the Unmanned Systems Forces released video footage of the operation, which is available via the unit’s official communication channels.
The targeting of the Sterlitamak plant aligns with Ukraine’s broader strategy of systemic degradation of the Russian war economy. Through striking unique production nodes, such as the sole national source of specific synthetic rubbers vital for military aviation and industrial applications, Ukrainian forces inflict disproportionate and long lasting damage on the Kremlin’s logistical supply chains.
The official real time reporting dashboard of the Unmanned Systems Forces grouping, known publicly as the “Pidrakhuika” (Counter) online scoreboard, provides verified data on the cumulative results of such combat operations. The dashboard, accessible at usforces.army, compiles confirmed strikes across all SBS units, reflecting a methodical and transparent approach to documenting the attrition of Russian military assets and supporting infrastructure.
The continued targeting of fuel and chemical production facilities is expected to place further strain on the Russian military’s ability to sustain high tempo air and ground operations.
The Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces have indicated that further strikes are planned, employing a strategy of persistent pressure aimed at systematically dismantling the industrial base supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The strike on the petrochemical plant in Sterlitamak was conducted by the 1st Detached Centre of the Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS), as confirmed by video footage released by the unit. The location of the engagement was the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant, Sterlitamak, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation.
