(POKROVSK, DONETSK OBLAST, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have reported significant losses inflicted on Russian troops in the Pokrovsk sector, following a month long campaign using fibre optic guided drones.
According to a statement and video released on 13 February, a unit known as Sword Group, operating within the 3rd Separate Special Operations Regiment named after Sviatoslav the Brave, destroyed 92 Russian soldiers and at least 14 vehicles in January.
The footage, published on the regiment’s official platform, shows repeated strikes carried out with first person view drones connected by fibre optic cables, a technology designed to resist electronic interference.
The unit also reported the destruction of two artillery guns and six communication antennas during the same period. Military officials said the results were achieved by a single detachment operating in the eastern front line area.
Ukrainian commanders said fibre optic controlled drones have become an important tool in countering Russian jamming systems, allowing operators to guide weapons directly to their targets without relying on radio signals.
The regiment stated that its operations are continuing and that further deployments are planned in the coming weeks as fighting remains intense around Pokrovsk and neighbouring settlements.
In a public message, Sword Group encouraged volunteers to join its ranks and provided contact details for recruitment. Officials said such appeals reflect the continued need for trained personnel as Ukraine defends its territory against Russian aggression.
The Russian authorities have not commented on the reported losses. Independent verification of battlefield claims remains difficult due to restricted access to active combat zones.
Ukraine has increasingly relied on advanced drone warfare to offset Russia’s numerical advantage in manpower and equipment.
