(Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast) – Operations by the Defence Forces of Ukraine are continuing across the Pokrovsk agglomeration, where Ukrainian units are holding their positions against sustained Russian pressure. Since the beginning of December, active assault actions by Russian forces have resulted in significant losses among their operational reserve, particularly units of the 76th Pskov Air Assault Division.
These losses have forced the Russian military to deploy additional units in an effort to maintain its offensive capacity. According to available information, Russia intends to replenish its losses on the Pokrovsk axis in several stages by the end of January, underlining the strain placed on its assault formations.
Over the past week alone, Ukrainian forces report that 370 Russian occupiers were killed or wounded. Ukrainian units also destroyed or damaged 86 vehicles and motorcycles, eliminated 20 artillery systems and self propelled guns, and destroyed or forced down nearly 1,400 attack drones used by Russian forces.
Within the city of Pokrovsk, the Defence Forces are containing the enemy, who is attempting to infiltrate the northern part of the city in small groups, moving beyond the railway line in an effort to gain a foothold. These attempts have so far failed.
As a result of Ukrainian counteractions, Russian forces have been unable to sufficiently accumulate troops in the industrial zone in the north west of the city. This has prevented them from launching open and direct assaults on Hryshyne, which remains one of the priority objectives for Russian forces in the Pokrovsk agglomeration.
Instead, Russian units continue to operate in small infantry groups, attempting to move through forest belts and approach Hryshyne from the south. Ukrainian forces remain engaged in disrupting these movements and denying the enemy any opportunity to regroup.
In the nearby city of Myrnohrad, Ukrainian defenders are also holding back Russian forces in the northern part of the city. The situation remains tense, but under control.
Over the past week, Ukrainian intelligence has recorded an accumulation of Russian military equipment in the area of Novohrodivka, south of Myrnohrad. Russian forces are reportedly planning to use these assets to continue assault operations, including attempts to advance into the upper parts of Myrnohrad.
The Defence Forces of Ukraine state that they are working to detect and destroy this equipment in a timely manner, aiming to prevent any escalation of Russian assault activity in the area.
The information was provided by the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
