(KHARKIV REGION / UKRAINE) — Ukrainian forces have seized the initiative in a series of developments on Monday, February 9, as frontline dynamics shift and global attention remains focused on the war.

Ukrainian troops launched a counteroffensive and recaptured a settlement in the Kharkiv region from Russian occupiers. Reports confirmed the yellow and blue flag now flies over Chugunovka following the operation by the 16th Army Corps, during which some Russian soldiers were taken prisoner.

Russian authorities initially announced an emergency evacuation in response to the offensive, but a subsequent statement reversed that decision. Officials attributed the change to the restoration of heat supplies, though many buildings reportedly continued to lack warmth. The contradictory messaging raised questions about local preparedness.

In Russian security circles, officials have released information suggesting unexpected external involvement in the assassination attempt on a senior Russian general, claiming the involvement of Ukrainian and Polish recruits. Confessions have been published by security services.

Ukrainian officials reported around 160 effective strikes on Russian oil infrastructure last year.
