The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a warning that force will be used to remove containers and businesses illegally occupying land at Juba International Airport if they do not voluntarily vacate.

In a press conference held last Friday in Juba, John Woja Elinana stated that airport authorities have provided occupants with sufficient time to relocate, however, many have disregarded the directive.

“We have notified those operating containers here that they are doing so unlawfully. We have given them time to vacate. We have even offered space in Alpha House, but they declined. A committee has now been established and force may be administered if necessary,” Woja explained.

He emphasised that the clearance of the area is part of a larger initiative to modernise and expand the airport in order to meet international standards and attract more global airlines.

“We aim to enhance the aesthetics of the airport. This is in the best interest of the nation. If any of your relatives are conducting business here illegally, advise them to leave. These containers must be removed,” he further added.

The CAA highlighted that reclaiming the land is imperative for enhancing security, safety, and service provision at South Sudan’s primary international gateway.
