(CRIMEA, UKRAINE – TEMPORARILY OCCUPIED) – A special unit of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, known as the Ghosts, has carried out a strike on two key Russian military assets in Crimea. The attack took place on 4 December 2025, targeting the Kacha military airfield and an air defence radar system near Simferopol.
According to a statement released on the Ukrainian Intelligence Telegram channel, a Russian MiG 29 multi purpose fighter aircraft was destroyed on the ground at the Kacha airfield. On the same night, the Ghosts also hit the Irtysh radar complex, which is part of the Russian air defence network in the occupied peninsula.
Ukrainian officials say this action is part of an ongoing effort to reduce the strength of Russian air defences in Crimea. The intelligence service noted that radars, anti aircraft systems and aircraft have been destroyed in several previous operations.
The strike follows earlier reported attacks in November, when the same unit said it had damaged a Russian Ka 27 helicopter and destroyed equipment linked to the Russian air defence systems.
Ukraine continues to target Russian military infrastructure in Crimea, an area internationally recognised as part of Ukraine but occupied by Russian forces since 2014. The latest action took place while the full scale conflict continues into its third year.
