(VORONEZH, RUSSIA) – Local authorities in Russia’s Voronezh region said the city came under a drone attack overnight on January 11, with falling debris damaging residential buildings and leaving four people hospitalised.
According to officials, a total of 17 drones were reported to have been shot down or disabled by electronic warfare systems over the city and the surrounding region during the night. Authorities said debris from the intercepted drones fell into residential areas, causing visible damage to apartment blocks.
Voronezh Oblast Governor Alexander Gusev stated that fragments from unmanned aerial vehicles damaged building facades and windows in three apartment buildings, as well as in a newly constructed residential property. He added that a fire broke out in one of the affected apartments, but emergency services were able to extinguish the blaze.
Officials confirmed that four people were taken to hospital with injuries described as varying in severity. No further details were provided about their condition, and there was no immediate information on whether additional residents required medical assistance.
Russian authorities have attributed the attack to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a claim that follows a familiar pattern after similar incidents. The reported strike came on the same night as a large scale Russian drone assault on several Ukrainian cities, according to Ukrainian sources.
Kyiv typically does not comment publicly on specific strikes inside the Russian Federation. Ukrainian officials have, however, consistently stressed their right to respond to continued attacks by Russia by targeting military infrastructure linked to the aggression.
