(LUHANSK OBLAST) – Ukrainian forces have carried out a series of drone strikes targeting Russian military command positions and security service facilities in occupied eastern and southern Ukraine, according to reports and video evidence released online.
Footage shows an FP-2 strike drone hitting a building in Kadiivka in Luhansk Oblast, producing a large explosion. The site is reported to have served as a command post for Russia’s 58th Army. Ukrainian sources said nine Russian officers were killed and five wounded in the strike. A second drone is also reported to have struck the same location.
The targeted settlement lies approximately 60 kilometres from the front line in the Bakhmut sector. Russian forces have made limited advances west of Bakhmut since capturing the city in 2022.
Separate reports indicate that on the night of 23 April, Ukrainian strike drones attacked a facility used by Russia’s Federal Security Service in Kherson. The site, described as a boarding house repurposed as a base, sustained significant damage. Five buildings were reportedly destroyed, including a dining facility, an armoury and an ammunition warehouse. Four vehicles were also destroyed. Ukrainian sources said two officers were killed and ten wounded in that attack.
This Kherson strike is reported to be separate from another previously targeted FSB site in the region. No video footage has yet been released for the latest incident.
The reported attacks form part of a pattern of three strikes in recent days targeting Russian officer locations, including two FSB-linked facilities and one army command post. Analysts suggest this may indicate an emerging Ukrainian campaign aimed at disrupting Russian command structures.
The accuracy of the strikes has led to speculation that Ukrainian intelligence has improved its ability to identify not only the locations of Russian command centres but also the presence of personnel at specific times.
Geolocation analysis of the Luhansk strike places the targeted building within Kadiivka, based on open-source verification. The strike location is situated well behind Russian front lines.
