(PETROPAVLIVKA, KHARKIV OBLAST) – Ukrainian troops have successfully repelled a significant Russian mechanised assault in the vicinity of Petropavlivka, within the strategic Kupiansk direction. The defensive operation was executed by personnel from the 14th and 30th separate mechanised brigades, who effectively halted the advancing column. According to military sources, the Russian command attempted to exploit heavy snowfall, mistakenly believing the weather would provide sufficient cover for an undetected offensive.

Ukrainian defenders confirmed that the weather conditions failed to obscure the enemy’s movement. Soldiers involved in the engagement noted that the snowfall neither masked the assault nor offered protection for the invading units. The Russian forces deployed a variety of equipment for the raid, including MT-LB armoured personnel carriers, all terrain vehicles, and buggies carrying assault groups. Despite the adverse conditions, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles successfully detected and engaged the targets.

The engagement resulted in the deaths of 17 Russian soldiers, with a further four personnel wounded. Ukrainian forces confirmed the destruction of two MT-LB units, 11 quad bikes, and two buggies. Detailed mapping provided by BILD military analyst Julian Röpcke confirmed the precise location of the skirmish near Petropavlivka, a village situated on the Hnilytsia River. The settlement remains a critical point on the route leading directly to the city of Kupiansk.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on 8 February that defenders had repelled a total of 13 attacks across the Kupiansk axis, covering settlements including Podoly, Pishchane, and Nova Kruhlyakivka. Commander in Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on 6 February that while frontline assaults are being contained, Russian sabotage groups remain active within Kupiansk itself. Syrskyi further noted that intense fighting persists in the Vovchansk area as the Russian dictator’s forces continue attempts to breach Ukrainian defensive lines in the Kharkiv region.
