(POKROVSK, DONETSK OBLAST) – Ukrainian forces have successfully intercepted a small mechanised assault by Russian troops on the outskirts of Pokrovsk, destroying at least one infantry fighting vehicle. Footage released by Ukrainian sources indicates that the Russian column, consisting of at least two BMP armoured vehicles, was led by a soldier on an All Terrain Vehicle. Reports suggest the Russian military is using quad bikes to scout for mines ahead of heavier armour, effectively using personnel as expendable detection assets. This tactic follows suspected remote mining operations by Ukrainian drones along key advance routes.
The drone footage shows a Russian BMP being struck from the rear and subsequently abandoned by its crew. Ukrainian forces then conducted a follow up strike to ensure the vehicle’s total destruction. A second BMP was observed stationary nearby, though its operational status remains unconfirmed. Analysts suggest the movement may have been a failed troop rotation or resupply mission rather than a full scale offensive, given the limited number of vehicles involved.
The engagement occurred in the southern sector of Pokrovsk, an area where the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, continues to commit significant resources despite mounting equipment losses. Observations from the ground indicate that the Russian military remains wary of Ukrainian defensive mining, even within territories they claim to partially control. The failed advance highlights the continued effectiveness of Ukrainian drone units in disrupting Russian logistical movements and mechanised thrusts.
The financial cost of such losses continues to mount for the Kremlin.
