(FILIYA, EASTERN UKRAINE) – Ukrainian forces have repelled a Russian mechanised assault near the contested settlement of Filiia, destroying a tank and at least two infantry fighting vehicles, according to recently released battlefield footage and geolocation analysis.

The attack involved elements of Russia’s 90th Tank Division, which advanced towards Ukrainian positions using one tank and three BMP armoured vehicles. The assault was met by Ukraine’s 46th Airmobile Brigade, which used drones to strike the advancing vehicles.

Video footage shows at least three Russian vehicles disabled during the engagement. Two vehicles were seen burning, while another appeared stationary and abandoned, suggesting damage or loss of mobility. Additional strikes were visible, though the quality and rapid cuts in the footage made it difficult to confirm the exact status of every vehicle involved.

Russian personnel accompanying the vehicles were also reportedly struck during the engagement. Portions of the footage showing these strikes were removed from publicly shared versions to comply with platform restrictions.

The failed assault followed a familiar pattern seen in previous Russian mechanised attacks, which have often resulted in high losses with limited tactical gains. Although the scale of the operation was smaller than some earlier assaults, involving only four armoured vehicles, analysts caution against interpreting this as evidence of a broader shortage of Russian equipment. The reduced size may reflect tactical choices rather than capacity constraints.

Geolocation conducted by independent analysts placed the destroyed vehicles near Filiia. Map markers indicated two BMPs, one destroyed and one abandoned, and a tank that advanced further before also being destroyed. The vehicles were observed moving north before turning west shortly prior to their destruction.

Filiia lies within a contested zone on the eastern front. Recent Russian attacks towards Novo Pavika to the north had bypassed Filiia, leading to speculation that the settlement might have fallen under Russian control. The latest footage contradicts that assessment, indicating that Filiia remains contested and under active pressure.

The engagement adds to a growing record of unsuccessful Russian mechanised assaults along the eastern front, as Ukrainian forces continue to rely on drones and precision strikes to counter armoured advances.
