(NOVOROSSIYSK, RUSSIA) – High resolution satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies and Vantor has provided significant evidence challenging claims made by the Russian dictator’s regime regarding the status of a Project 636.3 Kilo class submarine. Following a daring attack by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) on 15 December 2025, using experimental “Sub Sea Baby” uncrewed underwater vehicles, the Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that all vessels remained undamaged. However, satellite photos taken two days after the strike tell a different story.

Analysis of the port of Novorossiysk shows that of the three submarines originally stationed in the holding area, two were promptly moved to other locations. The third vessel, which was the primary target of the drone strike, has remained stationary for three consecutive days. Observers noted that the submarine appears to be sitting notably lower in the water compared to previous imagery. While some analysts suggested this could be an optical illusion caused by shadows from the nearby pier, others pointed to the visible destruction of the concrete structure as evidence of a massive explosion.

A massive crater, estimated at approximately nine metres in diameter, is clearly visible in the reinforced concrete of the pier. The detonation occurred near the stern of the vessel, which houses critical systems including the engine, propeller shaft, and steering mechanisms. Intelligence reports suggest that at least two internal compartments may have been flooded. This would account for the vessel sitting deeper in the water and its continued lack of movement.
