(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – US President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House on December 8, 2025, made an unsubstantiated claim regarding the total financial aid provided to Ukraine by the United States under the previous administration. He also appeared to take credit for limiting his own military support to Kyiv’s defence against the Russian dictator’s ongoing aggression. The controversial briefing was further marked by the President’s severe and unprofessional public critique of a female journalist.

Trump alleged that his predecessor’s administration had allocated a massive $350 billion to Ukraine. This figure is significantly higher than official records confirm. Data compiled by US government agencies and non governmental monitoring groups indicates that the total support allocated by the United States to Ukraine since the Russian dictator’s full scale invasion in February 2022 is approximately $187 billion. This includes security, financial, and humanitarian assistance, much of which is committed but not yet disbursed, and a substantial portion is spent domestically on manufacturing and replacing American weapons stock.
In stark contrast, the President appeared to boast about providing only limited support during his first term. He claimed, “Do you know what I gave them? Nothing. Well, first I gave them ‘Javelins,’ they destroyed tanks with them.” This statement suggested a minimal contribution, implying his administration actively limited US support while the country faced increasing pressure from the Russian dictator’s forces. This rhetoric downplays the crucial role of all lethal aid in assisting Kyiv’s national defence efforts.

Trump’s Attack on the Press

The President proceeded to launch a harsh and unprovoked personal attack on a female reporter present at the briefing. Directly addressing the journalist, he delivered a sharp public censure, stating, “You are the most disgusting reporter in this whole place. You are a disgusting, terrible reporter.” This aggressive language towards a member of the press corps aligns with a pattern of combative interactions with journalists, particularly women, and raises professional concerns regarding the freedom of the press and conduct in official White House engagements.
