An-26 Destroyed on Crimean Runway

(CRIMEA, UKRAINE) – A Ukrainian FP-1 drone successfully struck and destroyed a Russian An-26 transport aircraft on the runway at Kacha Air Base in Crimea, just as the aircraft was preparing for takeoff. The attack resulted in injuries to the aircraft’s crew and passengers, according to Russian sources.

The incident, captured on video, shows the An-26’s rotors spinning at the moment of impact, highlighting the precision and timing of the Ukrainian strike. The aircraft was loaded with troops at the time. Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted Kacha Air Base, part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet infrastructure, noting vulnerabilities in its defences.

Kacha Air Base is home to the 18th Aviation Regiment, which operates An-26 transporters, Be-12 maritime patrol aircraft, and other transport aircraft. The base also hosts the 25th Anti-Submarine Helicopter Regiment flying Mi-8 and Ka-27 and Ka-29 helicopters.

This latest strike follows a series of successful Ukrainian operations against the airfield. Earlier attacks included hits on multiple An-26s, Be-12 patrol planes, a MiG-29, and several helicopters, demonstrating Ukraine’s strategic targeting of Russian air assets in Crimea.

The An-26 is a light troop transport aircraft, with 114 in service at the start of the war. Official records currently list three destroyed, but the true number is likely higher due to additional attacks by FP-1 drones. Unlike other drone operations, FP-1 drones often operate independently, and many strikes have no verified visual confirmation. In this instance, the destruction and injuries have been confirmed.

Kacha Air Base is located on Crimea’s western coast and is used for Black Sea patrols. Ukrainian strikes on the base continue to degrade Russia’s operational capabilities in the region, underscoring the reach and effectiveness of Ukraine’s drone programme.
