(JUBA) – The South Sudan Revenue Authority has placed the container release OTP fee on temporary hold after traders, clearing agents and freight forwarders raised concerns over the financial pressure caused by the charge. The announcement followed a meeting held on four December two thousand twenty five between the South Sudan Clearing Agents Association and the Kenya International Freight Forwarders and Warehousing Association.
The meeting was called to address complaints linked to the OTP fee, which had previously been set at five thousand United States Dollars. Stakeholders agreed during the session to reduce the charge to three thousand five hundred and fifty United States Dollars, with the intention of lowering business costs and improving the overall trading environment in the country.
Although the reduction was welcomed, traders continued to report difficulties in meeting the remaining amount. Businesses said the charge was still too high and was affecting their operations. Based on these concerns and in line with the government’s intention to support the business community, the Revenue Authority resolved to suspend the implementation of the OTP fee until further notice.
The Authority said the fee will not be applied until a full sensitisation and consultation process.
