(WAU COUNTY) – The Mayor of Wau Municipal Council in Western Bahr el Ghazal, Hon. Joseph John Andrea, has issued a provisional local order for the collection of house local rate fees for 2026. The move sets out a clear framework for residential property charges across the municipality.
According to the official order, the fees are classified according to the residential area. First class residential areas will be required to pay 35,000 South Sudanese Pounds (approximately $4.93). Second class areas will pay 25,000 SSP ($3.52), while third class areas will pay 15,000 SSP ($2.11).
The mayor has warned that any landlord who violates the order may face a fine of 50,000 SSP ($7.04), imprisonment for up to two weeks, or both penalties.
The order directs the Chief Executive Officer of Wau Municipal Council, assistant CEOs of the five municipal blocks, the legal advisor, local sheikhs, and all security authorities to enforce the collection of the fees. Officials are expected to take necessary action to ensure full compliance with the new rates.
Municipal authorities say that the fee collection will help fund local services and development initiatives, aiming to improve public infrastructure and municipal management in Wau.
A statement from the County Press Unit said move reflects a broader push by local governments in South Sudan to streamline revenue collection and support public service delivery at the municipal level.
