(JUBA) – The Economic Cluster of South Sudan has passed a report promoting women’s rights to land and property, moving it to the Council of Ministers for final approval. The meeting, held in Juba on January 14, 2026, was chaired by the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikec.
The session also reviewed South Sudan’s membership contribution to the World Trade Organization. The Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang Juuk, presented the report, highlighting the potential benefits to the government and citizens of South Sudan through the country’s participation in the international organisation.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Lily Albino Akol Akol, told reporters that the Economic Cluster listened to the Minister of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Michael Chiangiek Geay, on the report promoting women’s access to land and property. She said the Cluster passed the report to the Council of Ministers for endorsement, marking an important step toward policy reforms that aim to improve women’s rights in land ownership.
In related developments within South Sudan’s economic sector, Greater Pioneering Operating Company (GPOC) has implemented a routine leadership rotation. The Vice President, Saber Ojak Chol, has returned to NilePet headquarters as Managing Director Emmanuel Athiei rotates staff across NilePet and its oil and gas Joint Operating Companies.
Saber has been replaced by Santino Ayuel Longar, who takes over as the new Vice President of GPOC. Several other employees in lower positions at GPOC have also been returned to NilePet headquarters as part of the staff rotation.
Officials said these changes are part of ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and strengthen management across the country’s oil and gas sector.
The Economic Cluster’s decision to pass the women’s land rights report reflects a growing focus on inclusive economic and social policies, while the leadership rotation at GPOC signals continued attention to governance and efficiency in South Sudan’s critical oil and energy sector.
