(JUBA) – The Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) of South Sudan has discussed new areas of partnership with the Chinese government, focusing on strengthening the country’s information sector.
The ICT Minister, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, met with the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Amb. Ma Qiang, on January 15, 2026, to review China Aid projects in the country. Among the key initiatives discussed was the construction of a new studio for the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), which was funded through China Aid.
Both officials agreed to accelerate the completion of the studio and to provide practical training for SSBC engineers, who will operate the new television facility. The training is expected to enhance the technical capacity of local media professionals and improve broadcast quality.
Minister Ateny Wek Ateny expressed gratitude for the growing cooperation between South Sudan and China, noting that such partnerships are crucial for the development of the ICT and media sectors. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that these projects translate into improved services for the public and support the country’s broader digital and media goals.
Ambassador Ma Qiang expressed optimism about the expanding bilateral relations between the two countries. He said China remains committed to supporting South Sudan’s ICT development and will continue providing technical and infrastructure assistance to strengthen the information sector.
A Ministry statement released on its website noted that the partnership reflects a wider effort to modernise South Sudan’s media and ICT infrastructure while building local technical skills. The initiatives are expected to have positive impacts on the country’s information services and communication capabilities, supporting both government operations and private sector growth.
According to the Information and Postal Services Ministry the collaboration highlights South Sudan’s growing international partnerships aimed at developing key sectors, creating jobs and enhancing the quality of services delivered to citizens.
