(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony inaugurated a new Ministry of Animal Resources, Fisheries, and Tourism headquarters and veterinary clinic in Juba on Wednesday, marking a key step in the state’s economic recovery and development efforts.
Governor Adil said the foundation for the ministry was laid two years ago and expressed appreciation to ministry staff and partners for completing the project. He encouraged continued growth in tourism, agriculture, and fisheries.
“This project started two years ago through a public-private partnership. I hoped it would reach completion and not remain a distant goal. I thank Minister Alex Latoya and all ministry staff for ensuring the project is finished,” Governor Adil said. “We now have an impressive building and a well equipped veterinary clinic.”
The governor also acknowledged private sector support, highlighting Ali Atteras, CEO of Star Group of Companies, who led the initial implementation, and Eagle International Company, which modernised and furnished the headquarters.
“This new headquarters will create a productive work environment,” Adil added. “I expect results that will strengthen tourism, improve livestock value, make the most of our resources, and develop policies to promote fisheries. This is an example for other institutions to embrace innovation and undertake similar initiatives.”
Minister Alex Lotoya Elia said the new facilities represent a milestone in Central Equatoria’s economic recovery.
“These buildings symbolise our commitment to economic recovery through livestock, fisheries, and tourism,” Lotoya said. “With improved facilities and a central hub for planning and policy, we are better equipped to support farmers, herders, and fishers, and promote Central Equatoria as both an economic and tourist hub.”
He added that the veterinary clinic will provide timely care for animals. “Animals have rights and are entitled to primary health systems, just like humans,” he said.
Central Equatoria is one of South Sudan’s 10 states and includes the national capital, Juba. The state’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and tourism, sectors that have been affected by years of conflict and limited infrastructure. The new ministry headquarters and veterinary clinic aim to support recovery and sustainable growth in these areas.
