(JUBA) – The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan has reaffirmed the importance of strong internal discipline, teamwork and adherence to banking regulations as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s central banking institution.
On Friday, the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Hon. Yeni Samuel Costa, addressed junior staff members during an orientation session at the Bank’s headquarters in Juba. The lecture focused on banking regulations, as well as the rights and duties of staff, and was received with strong support from those in attendance.
The engagement formed part of a series of internal orientation meetings being led by Governor Costa since taking office. These sessions aim to improve institutional understanding, promote professionalism and ensure that staff at all levels are familiar with the rules governing central banking operations in South Sudan.
During the session, Governor Costa underlined the need for staff to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and respect for established procedures. He stressed that a clear understanding of roles and obligations was essential for maintaining public trust in the Bank and supporting wider economic stability in the country.
William Madut, representing the Bank of South Sudan Trade Workers Union, welcomed the governor’s address. He said staff appreciated the clear explanation of their rights and responsibilities and noted that such engagements helped to strengthen cooperation between management and employees.
In a related development earlier in the week, the leadership of the Bank of South Sudan convened a high level meeting with Directors General and Directors from various departments. The meeting, held in Juba on Monday, focused on strengthening teamwork and reinforcing policy discipline across the institution.
At that meeting, Governor Costa emphasised the importance of effective monetary policy implementation, particularly at a time when South Sudan continues to face economic pressures including inflation and currency instability. He urged senior officials to uphold the Bank’s core values of accountability, transparency, teamwork, professionalism and excellence.
The Second Deputy Governor for Administration and Finance, Hon. Rita Nyankiir Akoon, attended the meeting, alongside other senior officials. Her presence highlighted the leadership’s collective commitment to internal reform and improved coordination within the Bank.
