(JUBA) – The National Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has restructured its executive leadership, introducing new appointments that bring broader representation and greater inclusion of women into senior decision-making positions.

The move follows an administrative order issued by the Chairperson of the Chamber, Losidik Lukak Legge. The order reconstitutes the leadership body with a number of significant changes, aimed at strengthening the organisation’s role in supporting business development across South Sudan.

Under the new structure, John Lual Akol Akol has been reassigned from his previous role as First Deputy Chairperson to serve as Senior Advisor on Regional and International Trade. His new portfolio will focus on enhancing the Chamber’s engagement with markets beyond South Sudan, a critical step given the country’s increasing need to diversify trade and strengthen regional economic integration.

Salwa Bakony Monytuil has been promoted from Second Deputy Chairperson to First Deputy Chairperson. She becomes the first woman to hold the position in the Chamber’s history, marking a significant milestone for gender inclusion within the country’s business leadership.

In addition, Wieu Wieu Mou has been named Second Deputy Chairperson, taking responsibility for Industry and Internal Relations, while Paulino Mathiang Wuor has been appointed as Coordinator for Ruweng Administrative Area, reflecting the Chamber’s efforts to expand its presence at the subnational level.

Two other appointments were made to the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Duol Teng and Dr James Bol were named as members of the board, alongside new appointees Sarah Enok and John Agau. Enok’s appointment further increases female representation within the governing structure.

The reorganisation is being interpreted by observers as an attempt to revitalise the Chamber’s executive leadership, with emphasis on both geographical and gender balance. Business leaders in Juba say the changes may help the institution improve its advocacy role and provide stronger support to South Sudanese entrepreneurs navigating a difficult economic climate.

The Chamber is expected to play an increasingly important role in advocating for policies that strengthen domestic industries and expand regional trade links, especially at a time when businesses in South Sudan seek stability and opportunities beyond oil dependency.
