The Minister for Transport, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, has recently briefed His Excellency Gen. Taban Deng Gai following his visit to Djibouti, where he finalized a memorandum of agreement with the Duty Free Zone on River and Dry ports.
Dr. Akol explained that the agreement, a collaborative effort between South Sudan and Djibouti, aims to construct river ports in Shambe, Malakal, Adok, Renk, and Melut, as well as dry ports in Basi and Gegar.
This agreement is crucial for enhancing South Sudan’s export and import channels through Djibouti and improving river transportation. A joint technical committee will be set up by the two countries to oversee the efficient implementation of these projects.
The Vice President commended the Minister’s initiatives and assured him of full support and coordination with relevant institutions, including the Ministry of Trade, Telecommunications and the Ministry of Petroleum.
