(JUBA) – South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has held high level discussions with the World Bank aimed at boosting economic recovery, infrastructure development and essential service delivery across the country.
On Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monday K. Kumba, welcomed Mr. Charles Underland, the World Bank Country Representative, to his office in Juba for a courtesy visit. The meeting focused on practical ways to advance reconstruction projects, enhance public services, and promote economic stability in the country.
Mr. Underland reaffirmed the World Bank’s intention to strengthen its engagement with South Sudan at multiple levels. He described the relationship as a “committed partnership” that extends beyond individual projects, highlighting the Bank’s readiness to work closely with national institutions to address long-term development priorities.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the Bank’s continued support and stressed the importance of aligning development initiatives with South Sudan’s own national strategies. Both sides noted that a strong partnership can help deliver critical investments that improve livelihoods, expand infrastructure, and stimulate job creation.
Both parties agreed that the latest phase of cooperation will unlock new development initiatives, strengthen public institutions and contribute to South Sudan’s wider peace and recovery process. They pledged to maintain close coordination to ensure projects are implemented efficiently and transparently.
The meeting comes at a time when South Sudan is seeking to rebuild its economy following years of conflict and instability.
International partners such as the World Bank remain crucial in supporting the country’s efforts to invest in infrastructure, improve governance and expand opportunities for citizens.
