(TORIT) – The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Gen. Louis Lobong Lojore, has appealed for peace, unity and political maturity among communities and political groups as South Sudan marked its 14th Independence anniversary.
Speaking at Freedom Square in Torit on Tuesday, Lobong reminded citizens that true independence cannot be achieved without peace and stability. He urged all political actors and citizens to avoid revenge and violence and instead focus on dialogue and cooperation.
“We must abandon the politics of revenge and the culture of violence. There is no honour in conflict,” he said. “Peace belongs to those who build, not those who destroy.”
The Governor’s message comes at a time when South Sudan continues to experience pockets of political tension, community disputes and unresolved conflicts. In his address, he stressed the importance of national healing and reconciliation.
“There is a greater need for dialogue and political maturity. We must shun trouble politics if we are to build this country,” he added.
He called on all political parties and institutions to act in unity, working to protect peaceful coexistence and to focus on the shared task of nation building.
“We are not enemies. We are partners in the great task of building this nation,” Governor Lobong said, addressing the crowd gathered in Torit. “I call upon our communities in Eastern Equatoria to choose peace.”
