(PORT SUDAN) – South Sudan’s government has conducted a high level visit to oil companies and the oil loading terminal at Port Sudan, highlighting efforts to secure the country’s crude oil exports to international markets.
The delegation was led by Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and included Tut Gatluak Manime, Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs, along with other senior officials. The visit focused on the smooth transport of crude oil, operational security, and regional stability.
Officials met with management teams from oil companies handling South Sudan’s crude oil and conducted inspections at the Port Sudan terminal to ensure operations are running efficiently. The discussions included strategies to guarantee uninterrupted crude oil flow despite regional security challenges and logistical risks.
“The purpose of this visit is to review all operational and security measures for South Sudan’s oil exports and to strengthen cooperation with Sudanese authorities and oil companies,” Minister Kumba said. “Crude oil remains a key revenue source for our country, and ensuring a steady flow to the international market is critical for economic stability.”
In a related development, Minister Kumba held talks with Sudan’s Minister of Interior, Babiker Samra, to address bilateral challenges affecting citizens of both countries. The discussions focused on immigration, residency issues, and activating existing agreements and memoranda of understanding to facilitate smoother cooperation.
“We discussed challenges that affect citizens on both sides of the border, and agreed that relevant authorities should work together to resolve them. Exchange visits and the activation of agreements are essential to strengthen our bilateral ties,” Minister Kumba said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation the visit indicates South Sudan’s strategic focus on securing its oil sector, which remains vital for the country’s economy. The foreign minister also noted that coordination with Sudan is crucial, as Port Sudan serves as the primary outlet for South Sudanese crude exports.
