(AWEIL) – The first commissioners’ conference in Northern Bahr el Ghazal will begin in Aweil on Monday, 18 August, bringing together state leadership, development partners, and community representatives for five days of discussions.

The event will be officiated by Governor Simon Ubeer Mawut and will include participation from state government officials, United Nations representatives, civil society organisations, and traditional leaders.

According to State Minister of Information Gabriel Deng Yel, the conference agenda will focus on peace, security, development, and the seasonal migration of cattle — an issue that continues to generate disputes between communities in the region.

The gathering is expected to provide a platform for addressing local governance priorities and promoting cooperation between state institutions, international partners, and community leaders.

Organisers hope the discussions will produce practical recommendations for improving stability and development across Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
