President Salva Kiir Mayardit has officially sworn in several senior government officials at a ceremony held at the State House in Juba. The President directed the newly appointed officials to collaborate in order to stabilise the economy and enhance services for the people of South Sudan.
Key appointments include Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit as the Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes, Athian Diing Athian as the Minister of Finance and Planning, and Joseph Mum Majak as the Minister of Investment.
In his address, President Kiir emphasised the importance of unity, discipline, and transparency within the government. He stressed the need for teamwork and cooperation to meet the expectations of citizens who are currently facing economic challenges.
President Kiir specifically urged the Minister of Finance to prioritise stabilising the national economy through financial discipline and transparency. He highlighted the significance of effective resource management to restore public trust and confidence from international partners.
Regarding the Minister of Investment, President Kiir instructed to focus on attracting both domestic and foreign investments for the overall development of communities across South Sudan. He emphasised the need for investment policies to be implemented effectively to create real opportunities for the citizens.
The role of the Presidential Envoy was described as essential in coordinating special programmes to address urgent national priorities.
The citizens have been expressing concerns over poor services and rising prices, while donors have been calling for increased accountability in government affairs.
South Sudan is currently facing severe economic challenges, including high inflation and a weak currency. As of August 2025, the official exchange rate stands at 4,600 South Sudanese pounds (SSP) to one US dollar.
