(NIMULE, EASTERN EQUATORIA) – Nimule Municipality Mayor Caesar Longa Fuli on Friday led an inspection visit to the ongoing construction of the Agricultural Multipurpose Centre, a key project expected to boost local food production and improve livelihoods in the area.
The project, which falls under the mandate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry, is being funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The centre aims to strengthen agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming practices, and support food security in Nimule and surrounding communities.
Mayor Fuli described the project as a major step toward enhancing the region’s economic resilience and diversifying local income sources. He said the establishment of the new centre will serve as a foundation for training farmers, providing agricultural inputs, and developing new farming techniques suitable for the local environment.
“We deeply appreciate the commitment shown by FAO and all partners involved in this initiative,” Mayor Fuli said during the inspection. “Our focus is to maintain cooperation so that the centre achieves its purpose of supporting farmers and driving sustainable development.”
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture accompanied the mayor to assess the construction progress and ensure that the building standards meet government and donor requirements.
Once completed, the Agricultural Multipurpose Centre will provide facilities for farmer training, seed distribution, and crop research. It is also expected to promote environmentally friendly farming systems that can help local producers adapt to changing weather patterns and seasonal floods, which have often affected production in the area.
The construction project represents a broader effort to reduce food imports, improve rural incomes, and contribute to South Sudan’s national food security goals. It will also help Nimule Municipality develop into a key agricultural hub serving Eastern Equatoria and cross border trade with Uganda.
