(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Russia launched 1,770 attack drones against Ukraine during the past week, Ukrainian officials said on Saturday, describing an intensified aerial campaign that also included heavy use of glide bombs and missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces also dropped more than 1,530 guided aerial bombs and fired 86 missiles during the same period.
According to the Ukrainian leadership, the missile attacks included more than 20 ballistic missiles.
Zelenskyy said that each ballistic missile used by Russia contains at least 60 foreign made components that reach Russian factories through schemes designed to bypass international sanctions.
He said these supply routes are known and must be eliminated.
If the international community lacks sufficient air defence systems to simultaneously close the skies against ballistic missiles in both Europe and the Middle East, Zelenskyy said, then Russia must be prevented from assembling such weapons in its factories.
The Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to governments and organisations continuing work on sanctions designed to limit Russia’s ability to produce weapons used in attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Ukraine has repeatedly called on partners to tighten export controls and close loopholes that allow foreign technology to reach Russian military production despite existing sanctions imposed after the invasion ordered by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
