(NAROK COUNTY, KENYA) – Two people have died and several others have been injured following a road accident involving an Ena Coach bus travelling from Nairobi to Kehancha in Migori County.

The collision occurred late on Saturday night along the Narok–Mai Mahiu road when the bus was struck from behind by a trailer that reportedly suffered brake failure.

In a statement released on Sunday, 10 August 2025, Ena Coach Chief Executive Officer Richard Mogire confirmed that the bus, registration number KDE 279Q, had departed Nairobi at around 8:00pm on Saturday carrying 47 passengers and three crew members.

“While descending near the Catholic Church, an unexpected incident occurred when a trailer experienced brake failure, hit two vehicles, and then rammed into our bus from behind,” Mr Mogire said.

“Our bus lost control and overturned off the road. With deep sorrow, we report the deaths of two passengers – a woman and a child. Many others sustained injuries,” he added.

Police sources have suggested that the number of fatalities could be higher than the two officially confirmed, given the severity of the crash, which occurred at about 11:00pm.

Mr Mogire said that rescue teams from St John Ambulance, the police, and local volunteers arrived quickly at the scene to assist victims. The injured were rushed to hospital for treatment.

“We are thankful to report that many of those admitted have since been treated and discharged. We extend our condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and we wish a quick recovery to those injured,” Mr Mogire stated.

Authorities are continuing investigations to confirm the total number of casualties and establish the precise cause of the collision.
