(Malakal) – The Ngok Lual Yak Youth Association in Upper Nile State has formally congratulated Hon. Colonel Martin Monykuer Monyjok on his recent appointment as the State Minister of Finance, Planning and Investment. The event took place on Friday, 27 June 2025, in the state capital, Malakal.
The youth group presented a certificate of honour to Col. Monykuer, acknowledging his new leadership role in the state government. The ceremony, which was organised by local youth leaders, was attended by several community representatives.
Speaking at the event, Yousif Riak Kuol, the head of the youth association, expressed appreciation on behalf of the young people in the Ngok Lual Yak area.
He extended his gratitude to both the Governor of Upper Nile State, James Koang Chuol, and to the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, for placing trust in Col. Monykuer through the ministerial appointment.
Mr Kuol stated that the youth see Col. Monykuer’s appointment as a positive step toward improving economic management and transparency in Upper Nile State. He encouraged the minister to prioritise inclusive development, job creation and youth empowerment during his term.
The youth leader also called for greater collaboration between state institutions and local communities, highlighting the importance of engaging young people in development initiatives. He noted that supporting the youth population is critical to ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region.
Although the ceremony did not include detailed policy discussions, the honour given to Col. Monykuer symbolised the expectations placed on him to manage the state’s finances with integrity and efficiency. As Minister of Finance, Planning and Investment, his responsibilities include overseeing public spending, budgeting, and economic planning for Upper Nile.
No monetary gifts were reported at the event, and there was no mention of specific financial allocations. However, given the economic challenges facing Upper Nile and other parts of South Sudan, the new minister’s role is expected to be crucial in guiding recovery and development efforts.
