(Juba) – The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Dr Addis Ababa Othow, visited the BoSS Sports Complex this week as part of ongoing efforts to support staff health and fitness.
His visit on 2 July 2025 aimed to inspect ongoing preparations at the facility and show encouragement ahead of a friendly basketball match scheduled for this Friday.
The match will feature the BoSS Basketball Team against their counterparts from the Dar Petroleum Operating Company (D-POC). The teams are preparing for the event as part of broader recreational and wellness activities aimed at building stronger bonds among employees while promoting physical wellbeing in the workplace.
Dr Othow interacted with players during the inspection and encouraged them to take sports seriously as a key part of a healthy lifestyle.
“Fitness is not just about sport. It is about discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These are values we need in our institutions too,” the Governor reportedly told staff during the visit.
BoSS has been leading by example through internal initiatives aimed at integrating wellness into the workplace, including regular sporting events, fitness sessions, and inter institutional competitions.
The friendly match on Friday is expected to attract a supportive crowd from both institutions.
Though the event is recreational in nature, it also reflects a wider trend of public and private institutions in South Sudan recognising the value of non monetary employee motivation strategies such as sports and recreation.
The exact cost of the ongoing improvements at the Sports Complex was not disclosed.
