(AWERIAL COUNTY, LAKES STATE) – Five people were injured early on Friday morning when a vehicle overturned near a stream bridge between Awerial and Golyar along the Juba Highway. Local authorities say the accident happened at about 4 a.m. as the driver was travelling towards Juba.

Witnesses believe the driver lost control of the vehicle before it left the road. All the passengers survived the incident, though one person suffered serious injuries and required urgent medical attention. The other four passengers received treatment for less severe wounds.

The cause of the accident is still under review. Police and road safety officers have been asked to assess the condition of the road and the vehicle involved. No figures were shared on the value of damage.

Transport officials continue to raise concern about road safety on highways leading into Juba, especially during early morning driving when visibility is lower. The Juba Highway is a vital connection for traders and passengers who move goods to and from the capital and neighbouring regions. Frequent accidents can increase costs for transport companies and delay movement of supplies.

Road users in the area have also reported worn road sections and lack of warning signs, issues that authorities say will be considered as part of future road maintenance plans. Further updates will be provided once the police complete their investigation.
