(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has announced the graduation of twelve newly trained air traffic controllers, marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its aviation management and airspace safety. The group, which includes four women, completed nine months of specialised training at the East African School of Aviation (EASA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The graduation, held on 31st October 2025, drew participants from several African countries including South Sudan, Eswatini, Namibia, Angola, Uganda, Somalia, Comoros, and Kenya. The event highlighted growing regional cooperation in developing skilled aviation personnel to meet international standards.

The Acting Director of the East African School of Aviation, Dr. Oliver Sindabi, officiated the ceremony and awarded certificates to the graduates. He praised the trainees for their commitment to mastering critical aviation control skills.

Representing the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Meen Chol Majur, the Training Programmes Manager, congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold professionalism and dedication in their duties. He said their achievement demonstrated SSCAA’s focus on enhancing aviation safety and building local capacity in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Mr. Majur also noted that the inclusion of female graduates reflected South Sudan’s progress towards gender inclusion in the aviation sector. He added that the authority would continue supporting women to pursue aviation-related professions, from engineering to flight operations and air navigation.

The twelve South Sudanese graduates underwent nine months of intensive coursework and practical training covering Approach Control, Aerodrome Control, and Area Control. The programme followed ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and EASA’s national training framework.

The SSCAA said the new graduates would help boost operational efficiency and enhance the safety and management of South Sudan’s airspace. The authority views this achievement as an investment in the future of the country’s aviation infrastructure, essential for supporting economic growth and regional connectivity.
