Hundreds of worshippers assembled at St. Mary Catholic Cathedral in Yambio on Friday to mark the Feast of Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, a revered celebration in the Catholic Church.
During the ceremony, more than 700 members of the Legion of Mary reaffirmed their dedication to following the example of Mother Mary, vowing to serve others with compassion and devotion.
Theresa Kazi, Secretary General of the Legion of Mary in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, addressed the significance of faith renewal and community service.
In his sermon, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala stressed the spiritual importance of the Feast of Our Mother Mary, the Assumption, and the commemoration of Mary’s purity and role in salvation.
The Feast of the Assumption is an annual observance on August 15 by Catholics globally, honouring the belief that Mary was taken bodily into heaven at the end of her earthly life.
Bishop Hiiboro said that the celebration not only acknowledges Mary’s life but also serves as a reminder for the faithful to recognise their own value as children of God.
