(JUBA COUNTY) – Leaders from the Tijor community have appealed to the state government for major investment in telecommunications and water infrastructure to support local economic activity.
A high level delegation from the area met with Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony in Juba on Monday. The representatives expressed their continued support for the state leadership while making a formal case for improved service delivery. The community noted that the lack of reliable phone network coverage and the absence of clean water points are currently acting as barriers to growth and stability in the region.
The business community in Tijor has long cited the digital divide as a significant hurdle. Without consistent mobile connectivity, local traders are unable to participate in digital payment systems or coordinate logistics with markets in the capital. The delegation explained that improving network access would allow for better trade links and provide a necessary platform for small businesses to expand.
Governor Adil welcomed the visit and confirmed that his administration remains committed to security and the provision of essential services. He stated that the government agenda is focused on stabilizing the region to create a better environment for both local residents and private investors. He noted that peace and service delivery are the foundations for any meaningful economic progress in Central Equatoria.
During the discussions, the Governor also spoke about the political landscape and the upcoming national elections. He asked the community leaders to help educate their locals on the electoral process. He described the vote as a vital mechanism for citizens to participate in governance and choose representatives who will prioritize local development needs.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from the Governor to explore ways to address the infrastructure gaps in Tijor. For the community, these improvements are seen as essential for moving beyond subsistence living and integrating more fully into the wider economy of the state.
