(JUBA) – Juba Electricity Distribution Company Limited has issued a public invitation to qualified and reputable insurance companies to submit bid proposals for the provision of medical insurance services and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance for the year 2026. The move reflects the growing use of structured procurement by major service providers in South Sudan and highlights increasing demand for formal insurance cover within the country’s corporate sector.
JEDCO, a licensed corporate organisation operating under the laws of the Republic of South Sudan, said the tender is aimed at securing insurance services for its employees and its fleet of vehicles operating in Juba. The company has been active in the capital since 2019 and currently runs six service centres across Hai Mauna, Gudele, Juba Town, Nimratalata, Munuki and Gumbo Sherikat.
According to the tender notice dated 27 December 2025 and referenced JEDCO MD 1712, the company is seeking competitive sealed bids from insurance firms with the capacity to deliver medical insurance and comprehensive motor insurance during the 2026 period. JEDCO said the procurement process is part of its standard corporate governance and risk management practices.
Interested and suitably qualified insurance companies are required to obtain and submit their proposals by hand delivery to the JEDCO Procurement Office at its Hai Mauna office in Juba. Submissions will be accepted during official working hours from 07:00 in the morning to 17:00 in the evening, starting from 2 January 2026.
The bid notice will officially close on 31 January 2026 at 17:00 hours. JEDCO has advised bidders to carefully review the tender notice document for full details on eligibility requirements, scope of services and submission procedures. Only proposals submitted within the stated timeframe and in line with the requirements will be considered.
The tender is expected to attract interest from both local and regional insurance firms operating in South Sudan’s small but growing insurance market. Corporate contracts from utilities such as JEDCO are viewed by industry players as stable business opportunities in a challenging economic environment marked by currency pressure and rising operational costs.
JEDCO is registered with the Ministry of Trade and Industry under licence serial number 20250001948 and operates as the main electricity distribution company in Juba. The company’s expanding workforce and vehicle fleet have increased the need for structured medical cover and vehicle risk protection, a trend that mirrors broader developments in South Sudan’s formal private sector.
Business analysts say the tender also sends a signal to the wider market about the importance of compliance, employee welfare and asset protection, even as companies operate in a difficult operating environment. For the insurance sector, such tenders provide opportunities to deepen market penetration and improve service standards.
