(JUBA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Juba County, Emmanuel Tete Ezoon, has urged residents to stop dumping waste on the streets and announced that every Saturday will now be observed as a general cleaning day for the city.

Speaking on Sunday, the Commissioner said designated waste collection points have already been set up across Juba to improve the city’s cleanliness and waste management. He encouraged households to keep their rubbish at home until Saturday when trucks will collect it, or to dispose of it at the designated collection areas.

The new initiative is expected to ease the growing problem of unmanaged garbage in Juba, which has been a challenge for both city authorities and residents. Poor waste disposal has been linked to blocked drainage systems, increased flooding during heavy rains, and the spread of diseases.

Commissioner Ezoon said the weekly cleaning day will not only keep Juba cleaner but also help reduce public health risks and improve the city’s image as South Sudan’s capital. Authorities hope that by enforcing regular waste management, Juba will become more attractive for business, tourism, and future investment.
