(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – The organising committee of the Mudari Cultural Festival has carried out an official visit to Lake Joor as part of final preparations for the upcoming cultural event scheduled to take place later this month in Terekeka County in Central Equatoria State.
The visit took place on Friday, 10 January 2026, and was led by the Chairman of the Mudari Cultural Festival, Bush Buse. Committee members toured the Lake Joor area to assess site conditions, review accessibility and evaluate the surrounding environment in readiness for hosting festival activities.
According to the organisers, the assessment focused on identifying suitable areas for cultural tours, camping and visitor engagement. The team also examined the general setting of the lake to ensure it could accommodate both local and visiting participants expected to attend the festival.
Following the visit, the committee confirmed that Lake Joor meets the requirements for hosting the Mudari Cultural Festival. Organisers described the site as suitable and attractive for cultural activities, noting its natural setting and potential to offer visitors a distinctive experience.
The management of the festival expressed satisfaction with the findings and reaffirmed its readiness to proceed with the event as planned. The Mudari Cultural Festival is scheduled for 16 January 2026 and is expected to bring together cultural groups, community members and visitors from within and outside Terekeka County.
Local observers say the choice of Lake Joor highlights growing interest in linking cultural events with tourism development in South Sudan. Cultural festivals are increasingly viewed as opportunities to promote local heritage while supporting small scale business activities such as transport, accommodation and food services.
Organisers have invited the public to attend the festival and experience the cultural heritage of the Mudari community. The event is expected to contribute to local economic activity and raise the profile of Terekeka County as a destination for cultural and nature based tourism.
