The Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, welcomed a delegation from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for a courtesy visit in her office in Juba. The team, led by Mamman Mustapha, discussed strategies to enhance access to essential healthcare services in South Sudan, with a focus on maternal and child health.
Key public health issues such as malaria and malnutrition, which continue to affect vulnerable communities in various parts of the country, were also addressed. Minister Cleto reiterated the government’s dedication to collaborating with humanitarian partners like MSF to ensure that quality healthcare reaches those most in need.
Mustapha underscored MSF’s longstanding support to local health systems in South Sudan through emergency interventions, treatment programmes, and medical training. He affirmed MSF’s commitment to working with the Ministry of Health to provide technical expertise and resources for addressing urgent health concerns.
Both parties agreed to maintain open communication channels and hold follow-up meetings to develop practical cooperation plans. The partnership aims to enhance the Ministry’s and its partners’ capacity to effectively address ongoing health challenges in South Sudan, including high rates of malnutrition among children under five, limited access to skilled birth attendants for maternal health, and gaps in immunisation and treatment services for child healthcare.
