Lakes State government, in collaboration with partners, has initiated the distribution of the second dose of malaria and measles vaccines across Lakes State. The launch took place on Wednesday.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs in Lakes State, Stephen Mathiang Deng, commended the national Ministry of Health and health partners for implementing the new malaria vaccine in Lakes State. He highlighted the importance of immunization in protecting children, emphasizing that prevention is crucial.
Under the leadership of President Kiir Mayardit and the national Ministry of Health, efforts are being made to ensure the health and safety of the population. In comparison to other countries where vaccines are not readily available, Deng expressed gratitude for the accessibility of vaccines in Lakes State and urged parents to take advantage of this opportunity to safeguard their children.
Dr. Ezekiel Mourwel Maker, representing the Ministry of Health in Lakes State, emphasized the significance of the vaccine in reducing malaria cases among children. Despite existing interventions such as distributing mosquito nets and creating awareness, malaria infection rates remain high. The introduction of the vaccine aims to provide another layer of protection against the disease.
Dr. Juma Santino Deng, the EPI Manager in Lakes State, outlined the impact of the malaria vaccine on reducing infection rates and mortality among children. He explained the dosing schedule and the preventive measures that should accompany the vaccination program.
Dr. Achai Deng Biong, interim State coordinator for the World Health Organization in Lakes State, highlighted the role of the malaria vaccine in the comprehensive control strategy to combat malaria. She stressed the importance of community involvement in ensuring the success of the vaccination program.
The vaccines will be administered in multiple doses, in alignment with routine immunization schedules, to maximize protection and immunity.
