(NAIROBI) – The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Nairobi has held a dialogue with South Sudanese artists based in Kenya, focusing on the role of music and creative arts in advancing unity, cultural identity and positive international representation. The meeting, convened on 28 August 2025, brought together performers and cultural leaders who expressed both optimism and concern about the creative sector’s position in the diaspora.

During the discussions, the Embassy highlighted music’s potential to transcend political and ethnic divisions. Embassy officials encouraged artists to see themselves not only as entertainers but also as ambassadors shaping how South Sudan is perceived at home and abroad. The message was clear: each performance contributes to the country’s image and can help build social cohesion.

The Embassy affirmed its commitment to working with young people and cultural figures to strengthen inclusion and national pride. It stressed that cultural expression remains an essential part of nation building, providing a platform to preserve South Sudan’s rich and diverse heritage.

Artists present at the session, including performer Maco Boy, welcomed the outreach but noted several persistent challenges. They cited difficulties such as lack of proper documentation, financial constraints, and the absence of a structured body to represent creatives in Kenya. Participants widely agreed on the need to form an umbrella organisation that could coordinate activities, unify the community, and advocate for support.

The Embassy welcomed these ideas and promised continued dialogue. It announced that a follow up meeting will be organised at the chancery to explore practical measures to strengthen cultural initiatives and establish a united artistic front.
