(AWEIL) – The Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Simon Ober Mawut, has called on newly appointed officials of the State Revenue Authority to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation and ensure accountability in the management of public finances.

Governor Ober presided over the swearing in ceremony on Thursday, 11 September 2025, at the State Secretariat General in Aweil. The event marked the official entry into office of senior leaders tasked with overseeing state revenue collection and administration.

The officials sworn into office include Hon. Philip Goque Achuil, who will serve as Deputy Commissioner for Administration and Finance, and Hon. Abraham Manyang Diing, who takes up the role of Deputy Commissioner for Operations.

Administering the oath of office was Molana Joshua Lado Santo, the President of Aweil High Court. The ceremony was attended by state officials, members of the judiciary, and invited guests.

Ober told the new appointees that their mandate comes with responsibility and the need for strong professional ethics. He urged them to focus on building an efficient and transparent revenue system that will serve the people of Northern Bahr El Ghazal and support the wider goals of development in South Sudan.

He further emphasised that the Revenue Authority plays a central role in mobilising domestic resources, which are vital for both national and state development priorities. By improving the collection and management of state revenues, he said, the state could reduce reliance on external funding and strengthen its financial independence.

The governor’s remarks come at a time when South Sudanese states are under pressure to improve public financial management systems and broaden their revenue base. With inflation and currency fluctuations affecting the national economy, state level efforts to improve tax administration and service delivery have become increasingly important.
