(JUBA) – Nile Commercial Bank PLC (NCB), one of South Sudan’s established commercial banks, is stepping up efforts to support businesses engaged in international trade through its Letters of Credit facility and expanded foreign exchange services. The bank, headquartered in Juba Town, says it is determined to make cross border transactions secure, reliable, and efficient for importers and exporters across the country.
NCB’s Letters of Credit provide a guarantee to businesses importing goods from international suppliers, ensuring that payments are handled with transparency and reduced risk. This service, the bank says, enables South Sudanese companies to trade with confidence while focusing on growing their operations.
The bank’s foreign exchange service is also central to its operations. NCB facilitates the exchange of major global currencies, including the US dollar, Euro, and British pound, into South Sudanese pounds (SSP), which is crucial for businesses engaged in international transactions. At the current exchange rate, one US dollar equals 4,600 South Sudanese pounds, according to official rates for August 2025.
In addition to trade finance, NCB has introduced a wider range of services designed to meet the needs of modern businesses. The bank provides consultancy support through its team of financial, legal, and market experts, offering advice to investors and companies exploring opportunities in South Sudan’s growing economy.
The bank also facilitates money transfers both within South Sudan and internationally, thanks to correspondent banking agreements with other financial institutions abroad. This is particularly important for businesses needing to move funds quickly and securely across borders.
NCB’s traditional banking services remain part of its core offer. Account holders can access cheque payments, while automated teller machines (ATM) provide a safe and convenient way to withdraw money without the need to carry large amounts of cash. Customers are reminded to use their four digit personal identification number (PIN) for security and convenience.
The bank says its mission is to provide reliable and modern banking facilities that support South Sudan’s economy, especially at a time when businesses are seeking stability in trade and investment.
